The Geological Association of Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Section (GAC-NL) extended a warm welcome to registrants and participants in the 2024 Annual Technical Meeting. In total there was 23 presentations from students and professionals with posters presented by students. The meeting was hosted at the department of Earth Science at Memorial University and was brought to you by volunteer efforts from the executive committee and other volunteers with in-kind support from the Geological Survey of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Geological Association of Canada, the Department of Earth Sciences, Memorial University, and the Alexander Murray Geological Club.
The 2024 “Outstanding Student Presentation Awards” were won by Nicolas Prieto for his presentation “Structural characterization and tectonic evolution of 1.3 Ga REE-bearing Fox Harbour Volcanic Belt, southeast Labrador”, and by Charles Lapointe for his presentation “Geology of the Aurora Vent Field: First Exploration of Hydrothermal Vents Under Ice in the Arctic Ocean”, these presentations were given at this year’s GAC-NL Annual Technical Meeting. The success of these meetings depends on the participation of students like yourselves, and we thank you for contributing. And the 2024 “Outstanding Student Poster Award” was won by Zahra Hossein Esfahani for her presentation about “Crustal Structure In Trans-Hudson Orogen (Northern Canada) Through Receiver Function Analysis”, also at this year’s Geological Association of Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Section (GAC-NL) Annual Technical Meeting, congratulations Zahra!
